Tooth Extractions

We always try to save your natural teeth. But sometimes a tooth is too damaged, infected or crowded to keep. At Hunt Dentistry in Brampton, we remove teeth gently, with sedation options for anxious patients.

Tooth extractions at Hunt Dentistry Brampton

Why a Tooth May Need to Come Out

  • Severe decay or damage that cannot be repaired
  • Infection that cannot be treated with a root canal
  • Advanced gum disease
  • Crowding before orthodontic care
  • A problem wisdom tooth

What Happens

We review your X-rays, numb the area and remove the tooth. We then explain how to care for the area. For comfort, see sedation dentistry.

Replacing the Tooth

After healing, we can discuss replacing the tooth with a dental implant, a bridge or dentures.

Before Your Visit

  • Tell us about your medications, allergies and health conditions
  • Eat a light meal first unless we advise otherwise
  • Arrange a ride home if you choose sedation
  • Bring insurance or CDCP details
  • Plan to rest afterward

After Your Treatment

  • Bite gently on gauze to control bleeding
  • Do not rinse, spit hard or use a straw for the first day, so the blood clot stays in place
  • Eat soft, cool foods
  • Do not smoke
  • Use pain relief as directed on the label
  • Call us if bleeding, pain or swelling gets worse. For swelling that affects breathing, go to hospital or call 911

Frequently Asked Questions

Does an extraction hurt?

We numb the area, so you should feel pressure but not pain. Soreness afterward is normal.

How long does recovery take?

Healing varies. We give you instructions for your case.

Can I be seen the same day?

We offer same-day appointments for urgent concerns.

What is a dry socket?

A painful problem when the blood clot is lost. Follow our aftercare and call us if pain worsens a few days after.

Are extractions covered by insurance?

Many plans and CDCP cover them. Ask our front desk.

Do I need to replace the tooth?

Often it helps to. We go over options once you have healed.
