Comprehensive Dental Exams
A complete head-to-toe oral health assessment — catching problems early before they become expensive and painful.

More Than Just a Check-Up
Your mouth is a window into your overall health. A comprehensive dental exam at Hunt Dentistry is far more than a quick look — it's a thorough, systematic assessment of every structure in and around your mouth, designed to catch issues early and keep you healthy long-term.
What We Examine
Every comprehensive exam includes a visual and tactile assessment of your teeth, gums, bite alignment, jaw joints (TMJ), tongue, cheeks, lymph nodes, and throat. We check for signs of tooth decay, gum disease, erosion, cracks, and oral cancer. Digital X-rays are taken to reveal what the naked eye cannot — decay between teeth, bone loss, root issues, and impacted teeth.
How Often Should You Have One?
For most patients, a comprehensive exam every 6 to 12 months is recommended. Higher-risk patients — those with diabetes, dry mouth, a history of cavities, or gum disease — may benefit from exams every 3 to 4 months. Children should have their first exam when the first tooth appears, or by age 1 at the latest.
What Happens After the Exam?
Once the exam is complete, Dr. Tripathi will walk you through every finding in plain language — what was found, what it means, and what your options are. You'll leave with a clear treatment plan if one is needed, prioritised by urgency, and our team will help you understand your insurance coverage before any work begins.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the exam hurt?
No — a comprehensive exam is non-invasive. The only tool that makes contact with your teeth is a mirror and a small probe used to gently measure gum pocket depth. Most patients find it completely painless.
How long does it take?
A full exam including X-rays typically takes 45 to 60 minutes for a new patient. Recall exams for existing patients are usually 30 to 45 minutes.
Is it covered by insurance?
Yes — comprehensive exams are covered by most dental insurance plans, typically 100% for one or two exams per year. We direct-bill your insurance so there's no paperwork for you.
