Root Canal Therapy
A root canal has a bad reputation, but it is the treatment that relieves the pain of an infected tooth and lets you keep your natural tooth. At Hunt Dentistry in Brampton, we aim to make it as comfortable as possible.

When You May Need One
- A severe, lingering toothache
- Sensitivity to heat or cold that does not fade
- Swelling or tenderness in the gum near a tooth
- A darkened tooth
- A deep cavity or crack reaching the nerve
What Happens
- We numb the tooth.
- We remove the infected or damaged tissue from inside the tooth.
- We clean and seal the inside.
- We protect the tooth, often with a crown.
If the tooth cannot be saved, see tooth extractions. Anxious? See sedation dentistry.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does a root canal hurt?
The treatment is done under anaesthesia, so most people feel pressure, not pain.
How long does it take?
It depends on the tooth. We tell you what to expect when you book.
Do I need a crown afterward?
Often yes, to protect the tooth. We advise based on the tooth.
What if I do nothing?
Infection can spread and pain often gets worse. See us soon.
Is a root canal covered?
Many plans and CDCP cover it. We bill directly. Ask our front desk.
Root canal or extraction?
Saving the natural tooth is often preferred. We explain both options.
